At God’s Children Ministries, we believe every person in need is one of God’s children. Helping them is how we live out the call of Scripture. You do not have to share our faith to give or serve alongside us. Generosity comes from the goodness of the heart, and everyone who wants to help is welcome.
When I was about 11 years old, I became gravely ill in my home country of Ghana. What first seemed like diarrhea was severe bleeding. I was admitted to Tema General Hospital, but the doctors could not determine what was wrong. I kept losing blood until I needed a transfusion. My mother was raising four children on her own and barely making ends meet. She had already lost two children. She prayed that my story would be different, but she could not afford to bring in other doctors. As my condition worsened, many believed I would die. I believe God had another plan for my life.
A group of doctors and nurses from America, visiting on a Mercy ship charity mission, came to the hospital to treat patients free of charge. They found me after I had lost so much blood. They cared for me, helped me receive the transfusion I needed, and stopped the bleeding. I survived and went home. I had nothing to offer the people who saved my life except my heartfelt thanks.
Twenty-nine years later, I am a U.S. citizen, a wife, an engineer, and a mother of three. The life I have today would not have been possible without the care those doctors and nurses gave me.
I have a special place in my heart for single mothers and their children because I was once one of those children. I know how much it can mean when someone offers help at the moment a family needs it most.
I founded God’s Children Ministries (GCM) to give back and invite others to lend a hand, no matter how little they can give. There are people in need in Ghana, the United States, and around the world. You do not have to share my faith to help them. A gift given from the heart may change someone’s life. It may even save one.
